Today turmeric is being studied for a beneficial compound it contains, curcumin. Curcumin gives curries their vibrant yellow color. Curcumin is now recognized for anti-inflammatory properties and beneficial compounds that show promise in combatting diseases including alzheimers, arthritis and some cancers.
Ginger has been used since time immemorial to combat infections, relieve nausea and aid digestion. It also has been shown to have antiviral activity. Ginger gets its heat from a compound called gingerol; this is one of the compounds that are believed to help inhibit viral replication and that may help protect host cells.
This simple tea is delicious enough to become a year-round favorite!
2 Cups water
Fresh Ginger Root – peeled and grated – 1 1/2 to 2 inch piece
Fresh Turmeric Root peeled and grated – 1 1/2 -2inch piece
Indianlife Ground Turmeric Powder (1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon as per your liking)
Honey (Local and Raw if possible)
Bring water, turmeric and ginger to a boil in medium pot under medium heat. Lower heat and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
Strain the tea into cups.
Add desired amount of Honey to taste.
